A batch for the morning truck failed its final check on a machine that has just failed calibration. Decide what the results really show, contain the batch, and tell the customer the facts.

Read the full brief

You are the quality technician on shift at a machining company. A batch of 2,400 motor brackets is booked on tomorrow's 07:00 truck, but two sample parts measured over the limit on a machine that has now failed its calibration check. Production says the error explains everything. You read the results, decide whether the batch is held, plan a containment from the production records when new measurements arrive, and write the nonconformance report and the customer notification. The quality manager is away until 18:00 and decides what only she may decide. Automated checks confirm your counts and saved work; your judgement is reviewed against the standard for the role.
